Coastal Interpretive Center in Ocean Shores hires new director

The Daily World

After a national search, the Coastal Interpretive Center (CIC) in Ocean Shores is announcing the selection of Jacob Baker as its new executive director.

Baker will begin in his new position the second week in April. In his new capacity, Baker will be responsible for providing overall leadership of CIC staff, activities, and programs; be the CIC’s principal advocate by actively engaging the local and regional community, partners, funders, and other stakeholders; and develop a robust funding/ donor development program.

Before joining the CIC, Baker worked in the education and environmental non-profit fields as a consultant and director of partnerships and communications for Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers in Colorado where he was successful in doubling that organization’s revenue. Baker was raised in Northern California and received a degree in anthropology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Baker has a love of the outdoors along with a strong environmental education background that will continue to further advance CIC’s programs and activities.

Baker is eager to listen to the voices of residents and visitors alike and hear their stories and interested in thinking creatively with partners and stakeholders to ensure that CIC adapts to meet the evolving cultural, educational, and environmental needs of the Grays Harbor region. When not at the office, you’ll likely find Baker outdoors, exploring Grays Harbor beaches as well as the mountains and waters of Western Washington.

CIC Board President Jean Stevens states that “the Coastal Interpretive Center is very pleased to be adding an individual with the skill and experience that Jacob has which is needed to successfully enhance the mission of the CIC to educate the public about the natural and cultural history of Washington’s Pacific coast and inspire the joy and wonder of nature.”
